The following is written on the inside cover of the parish register for Ninfield:-

"January 15 1776

During the severity of the present weather when no work can be done abroad the East of

Ashburham made a present of Five Guineas to the poor of the Parish.

The above sum with the approbation of the Church Wardens was distributed as under.

                                 John's beneficiers include his wife Ruth, and her Granddaughters and

                                 Grandsons (children od Ruth's son, William Cramp born prior to her marriage to

                                 John). He also has a bequeth to nephew George Lemmon (John sister Martha's

                                 son) who inherited 2/3 of the estate after Ruth dies.

                                 He also leaves £5 to George Davey

                                 The two Georges are executors. Poor Ruth gets 6/= a week plus the use of

                                 house and furnishings.

He married Elizabeth Cooke August 27, 1788 in Peasmarsh, Beckley, Sussex, England, daughter

of William Cooke and Mary Wheeler.  She was born October 06, 1767 in Pearsmarsh, Beckley,

Sussex England, and died May 1830 in Udimore Sussex, England.

 

Notes for William Sheather:

William Sheather married Elizabeth Cook by Banns at Peasmarsh on the 2 Aug 1788 ,

in the prence of John Sheather and Anothy Vincent Williams a farm labourer of Brede .

Both William and Elizabeth died in the Parish of Brede. Both were buried in St Mary's

Churchyard in Udimore , East Sussex.

William died 2 1/2 months after his sons arrived in Australia. buried at St Marys C of E.

Udimore, East Sussex.

In the Ninfield Parish Register it is recorded that because of the severity of the weather and

with no work able to be done , on January, 15, 1776 the Earl of Ashburnham made a gift of

five guines to the poor of the parish and the money was distributed by the church wardens.

 Only one person received five shillings and that was William sheather, all the rest on the

list received three shillings and under.
