Militia Attestation for 4th Battn. Shropshire Light Infantry signed in Hereford on 12

November 1895 for six years. he was appointed on15 April 1896 as Private 2401.

On 21 July he signed for seven years with the colours and five years reserve in

Shropshire Light Infantry and given number 5404.he saw service at home from 21

July 1897 to 6 November 1899 and then went to South Africa from 7 November

1899 to 23 September 1902. He obtained 3rd class certificate of education on 20

December 1897.he took part in the South African Campaign 1899-1902 and was

awarded the South African medal with Paaderberg; Driefontein: Johannesburg; and

Cape Colony Clasps, also the Kings medal with South Africa 1901 and South Africa

1902 clasps.Service history shows that he was a L/Cpl on 18-11-1898 and was

deprived on 2-2-1899. He was granted good service pay on 7-8-1900 and appointed

L/Cpl on 5-1-1901. he reverted to Private on 19 June 1901 and forfeited good

conduct pay on 20-5-1902. He was discharged at this own request on 23 September

1902 on payment of £18 PRO Ref Wo96/90 and WO97/5101

 WW1 Enlistment

Amos enlisted with the Territorial Force on the 8th October 1912 at Warwick. He is described as

5ft 8in. He was appointed to the 1/6th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment, Private Regimental No.

2265145. Amos was promoted to Corporal on the 28th November 1914 and to Sergeant on the 13th

October 1917. He saw service in France where he was wounded (shrapnel wound head) in action

in the field and admitted to hospital in Rouen on the 27th June 1915. Amos was wounded (gas

shell wound) a 2nd time in the field in France on the 12st August 1917.  He was awarded the

Military Medal on the 1st November 1918. Amos volunteered to serve an additional year after the

war. He was discharged from service on the 29th April 1920
