Notes for John
Henry Sheather:
John was a
signatory (signed with an "X") on the 8th December 1875 Cootamundra residents
petition to the
Postmaster General requesting that the Post office presently kept in Mr Branes's
store be
amalgamted with the Telegraph Office.

1875 Petition and covering
letter.
Cootamundra Herald Saturday 9th
November 1889
On Wednesday news reached town of the death of Mr. John
Sheather Snr. It appears
he had been exposing
himself in the back and after assisting his son Samuel with some
light work at the latters place he fell suddenly
and expired, without being able to speak
a parting word. A
magistrate in the absence of the coroner and finding records of the
facts stated. The deceased was 70 years
of age and the father of four sons and four
daughters surviving, one son having been buried at
Camden. He also
leaves a widow to
whom this sad news was specially grieving to: Mrs. C.
Loiterton, Jindalee and Mrs.
H. James, Tumut, are daughters of the deceased. The
family settled some 16 years ago,
all have been
industrious and highly respected and we feel sure they have the warm
sympathy of the people, as was
testified by the large attendence at the funeral. The
Rev. J. S. Lowell read the burial
service, deceased having been of the Church of
England.
