Review 15 Sep 1922
A fatal accident occurred
at Grong Grong on Thursday last week, when Mr John Herbert Sheather
was accidently killed while
assisting in loading pine logs at Mr P Harris'
farm.
Deceased and Mr Arthur
Harris were loading logs on a wagon. Mr Harris was leading the horse
and Mr Sheather was following
the logs up the skids, holding the end of a chain. The logs slipped
down the skids, the big end
of the log striking him and knocking him to the ground. The falling
log struck him on the head and
crushed the right side of his head.
Mr Harris lifted the log
off his unfortunate comrade, and went for
assistance.
Help was soon at hand, but
Mr Sheather died about 20 minutes after the accident occurred, and
before the arrival of a
doctor from Narrandera. The body was removed to his mothers residence at
Grong
Grong.
Deceased had a small farm
at Grong Grong. He was 37 years of age, was married and leaves a
widow and three
children.
The funeral took place at
Grong Grong on Friday. Much sympathy has been expressed for the
relatives of deceased.
