Gordon enlisted with the A.I.F. on the 2nd February 1917 at Sydney. He is described

as 5ft 5 1/2in. 138lbs with a Fair complexion, Grey eyes and Brown hair. Gordon saw

service in France where he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion. He was wounded (gun

shot wound right shoulder front body) in action on the 24th June1918. He rejoined his

unit on the 4th August 1918. Gordon was evacuated and admitted to the 3rd Australian

Field Ambulance. He was discharged from Hospital to duty on the 2nd August 1918.

He was then wounded (gun shot wound right shoulder, hand and thigh) in action a 2nd

time, in action in the field on the 23rd August 1918 he was invalided to the UK and

admitted to the 5th Southern General Hospital. Gordon returned to Australia on the

23rd March 1919 and was discharged from service on the 16th April 1919

his Unit in the Field and moreover has made a false statement on attestation, he will

forfeit all pay not drawn by him for the period prior to the date of his discharge and

will be removed from the pay roll from 18/8/18 (date of approval for return - CR.AIF.35229

(a)) He will be paid an allowance as set out in Defense Cable WT431 under

arrangements to be made by the Chief Paymaster." Henry was employed in the Men's

Mess Hut and the Sergeant's Mess at the 1st Training Brigade, Sutton Veny, England

Location: Rookwood Necropolis is 11 miles west of Sydney, its perimeter bounded

by the suburbs of Lidcombe, Flemington, Strathfield and Chullora. It can be reached

by road by following the Great Western Highway (Parramatta Road) from Sydney.

After travelling nine-and three-quarters miles turn south into Marlborough Road

which continues direct to the cemetery. 

Historical Information: There are nearly 400, 1914-18 war and 250, 1939-45 war

casualties commemorated in this cemetery, in many different sections.
