Clarence enlisted with the A.I.F. on the 31st July 1918 at Ganmain, New South Wales. He is

described as 5ft 8 1/2in. 154lbs with a Fair complexion, Blue eyes and Dark hair.  Both Clarence's

parents provided written consent for him to "enlist for active service aboard". Clarence embarked

on the Troopship, HMAT Medic on the 2nd November 1918 but the ship was recalled and arrived

back in Sydney on the 12th December 1918. Clarence was discharged from service on the 23rd

December 1918
