Authority on Australian History Dies
Mr James
Jervis, a Fellow of the Royal Australian Historical Society, died on Thursday at
Gloucester House. He was
79.
Mr Jervis was well known for his historical writings about many parts of
New South Wales.
He was a member of the R.A.H.S. for almost 40 years and
contributed many papers to the society's
journal.
Mr Jervis was
honorary research secretary for the R.A.H.S. from 1949 to 1961.
He spent his
early boyhood in the United States and then came out to Australia. He joined the
N.S.W. Education Department
in 1907.
He taught in a number of bush schools and at schools in Sydney
suburbs and retired from
teaching about 14 years
ago.
For many years, he was the Leaving Certificate examiner in Australia for
history.
Mr Jervis, who lived in Florence Avenue, Denistone, West Ryde,
leaves a wife and a daughter,
Mrs. H. U. G.
Hamilton.
The funeral service will be held at 9.30 this morning at the
Northern Suburbs Crematorium.

COLIN GEORGE KEEBLE MEYER, of Mudgee,
will be held today (Friday),
August 3, 1979, at 10 a.m., at St. John's Church of England,
Mudgee. From there the
funeral will proceed to the Canobolas Crematorium, Orange
where a committal service
will take place at 2.30 p.m.
