Brown hair. William saw service in Egypt and the Middle East where he was appointed

to Lance Corporal on the 18th March 1917. He was transferred to the 14th Light Horse

Regiment. William was promoted to T/Corporal on the 18th May 1919 to T/Sergeant

on the 19th May 1919 and then promoted to Sergeant on the 17th July 1919. William

returned to Australia in September 1919.
