Carney:
Joseph enlisted with the
A.I.F. on the 17th January 1916 at Armidale, New South
Wales. He is described as
5ft 2in. 9st 6lbs with a Fair complexion, Blue eyes and Light
Brown hair. He was promoted
to Corporal on the 5th June 1917. Joseph saw service in
France where he was wounded
(gun shot wound both legs) in action in the field on the
10th July 1917. He was
transferred to England and admitted to the 2nd Aux Hospital,
Fulham Hill. He then
rejoined his unit in France on the 5th December 1917 when he
was wounded (gassed) in
action a 2nd time in the field on the 26th April 1918. Joseph
was admitted to the 9th
General Hospital, Rouen. After discharge from hospital he
rejoined his unit on the 9th
July 1918 and was then killed in action on the 30th August
1918
Joseph's father, James
received his personal effects on the 4th June 1919. They
included: 2 Devotional
Books, Wallet and Photos. A 2nd packaged recveived contained:

Book, I Notebook, 1 Metal Wrist Watch (damaged) Guard
