William Evenden will leave his late residence, Cundletown, at
2 p.m. today (Saturday) for

The Manning River
Times 23rd March 1921 OBITUARY MR. WILLIAM EVENDEN As briefly
reported in our last issue, Mr. William Evenden died at his residence,
Cundletown, on
Friday morning, after an
illness of about an hour. The deceased gentleman was about 69 years of
age. The late Mr. Evenden was one of the oldest residents of
the Lower Manning district, and was
also one of the best known and
most respected. For many years he was engaged in farming on
Moto, but some years ago retired
from that occupation and took up residence in Cundletown, in
which centre he had many friends.
The deceased was a man of high ideals and of a fine Christian
nature; his goodness was not a
"veneer" - it went right through, and precept and practice were
nicely blended in his character.
When he was quite a young man the light of Wesleyanism began
to shine in this district, and
he became an ardent apostle of the simple faith, which developed
rapidly in this district and
throughout the world. About 40 years ago the late Mr. Evenden
became a local
preacher in connection with the Wesleyan Church, and
continued that labor of
love right up to
this
week before his death. The church changed its designation from "Wesleyan"
to "Methodist",
but the
doctrines remained unchanged, and nearly every Sunday for forty years
the voice of our
deceased friend has been heard in one of the many chapels
of the big circuit
proclaiming the
eternal
truths in which he had so profound confidence and hope. His earnestness
and his example
of
purity of mind and action were an inspiration. He was a man of more then
average brain power
and had
a wonderfully retentive memory. Though not college taught, he was
a well-read and
well-informed man and his discourses were always interesting
and instructive,
bearing the impress of
sincerity and honesty of thought. His work on earth has
ended; he had
fought a good fight, and
has
finished his course. The burial of the remains of the deceased
gentleman in the Dawson
cemetery on Saturday was the closing scene of a well
spent life, of one
who had been a good
citizen, who did all he could to leave the world better
than he found it. The deceased leaves a widow and a son and daughter. The
son, Mr. Robt. Evenden, resides at
Coopernook, and the
daughter, Miss Amelia, lives at home. Two of his sisters predeceased him.
His brothers are Mr. Edward
Evenden (Cundle), and Mr. James Evenden (Coopernook). The remains of the deceased
were buried in the Dawson cemetery on Saturday last, when there
was a very large attendance
at the graveside. Rev. A. T. Newton conducted the burial service.
Addresses were also given
by Messrs. J. Delves, J. A. Lambert and a prayer by Mr. Alf.
Whatson. ...

MRS. DULCIE
BONE
The death occurred in the
M.R.D. Hospital, on Friday last, of Mrs. Dulcie May
Bone, a highly esteemed resident of Moorland for many
years. She was
admitted to hospital three days before her death. The
late Mrs. Bone, who was
41 years of age, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Delves of
Moorland, who died within a few hours of each other last
August. She was
born at Moorland and after her marriage to Mr. Robert
Bone lived at
Jerseyville, near South West Rocks, where her husband
conducted a general
store and the post office for a number of years. Later
she resided at Moree for a
brief period, and during the past 12 months she lived at
Moorland. Mrs. Bone
was a prominent member of the Methodist Church at
Moorland and took a very
keen interest in the activities of the church during her
residence in that centre.
She was a very popular member of Moorland community and
was held in high
regard by all who knew her. Mrs. Bone who had been a
sufferer from asthma
for many years, is survived by her husband and one son,
Barry, also a sister
and a brother - Miss Lillian Delves, of Moorland, and Mr.
Cecil Delves, of
Coonabarabran. The funeral took place on Saturday last,
leaving Howard's
funeral parlours for the Moorland Cemetery, where Rev. F.
Paton officiated.
Funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. W. T.
