OBITUARY
MISS F. HICKS
The death occurred recently of
Miss Fenetta Hicks, in the Campbell Hospital, Coraki.
Miss Hicks, who was the
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hicks came from
Maitland to visit her
sister, Mrs. E. King, of Woodburn, and while there suffered a
heart attack. Burial was in the
Methodist portion of the Casino cemetery. Rev. S. T.
Redden officiated at the
service.
Miss Hicks was born in the Maitland district in 1886. She
was a Sunday School teacher
and class
leader.
She is survived by a sister Mrs. Eversleigh King, of
Woodburn, and one brother, Mr.
Andrew Hicks, of Stroud
Road.
Pallbearers were her six nephews, Walter Hicks, Albert Hicks, Ellis
King, Ellis
Lambley, Ray Gilson and Stan
McInnes.

HICKS
Mrs. Clara Emily Hicks, 88,
widow of the late Alfred Hicks, died at her home at 18 Clarice Street,
Lismore, on Tuesday
morning. Mrs. Hicks was born at Maitland and spent her early life in that
district.
She married Mr. John henry
Hicks at Morpeth in 1887. He was accidentally killed in 1900. In 1903
she married Mr. Alfred Hicks and they came to the
Richmond
River about 1906, where as
pioneers
of Springrove, they carried
on dairy farming for the next 37 years. They retired to live in Lismore,
where her husband
predeceased her eight years ago.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by
sons, Messrs Lyall (Ballina), and Don Hicks (Casino). Daughters are
Mesdames P. Garrett
(Concord), F. Cox (Lismore) and J. Mason
(Croydon
Park). Also surviving
are 14 grandchildren and 10
great grandchildren. Her funeral will leave the Gospel Hall, Keen
Street, Lismore today (Thursday),
after a service commencing at noon for the Lismore Cemetery.

A very sad burning fatality
occurred at Radfordales on Friday afternoon about half-past
two, the victim being Miss
Dorry Hicks, an eight-year-old daughter of Mrs. A. Hicks.
It appears that the child
was playing close to the kitchen fire with a kitten and in
turning suddenly round the
flames caught her dress. She ran out of the house screaming,
and a neighbour, Mr. J.
Evans, jr., attracted by her cries, immediately ran to her
assistance, and succeeded in
extinguishing the flames, but not before the child had been
severely burnt about the
back and body. Dr. Gibbes and a nurse were immediately
called in, and all that
could be done was done for the little sufferer, who lingered till an
early hour the next morning.
Unfortunately, at the time of the accident the child was
alone, her mother being
herself in indifferent health and under medical attention at Greta.
Much sympathy is felt with
the bereaved relatives.
