Notes for George
Lambert:
The Manning Times,
Wednesday, June 22nd 1904 OBITUARY MR. GEORGE LAMBERT Senr. One by one
the early pioneers of our district are passing away into the “great unknown”. It
is
now our painful duty to record
the demise of a very highly-esteemed resident of Jones Island, in
the person of Mr. George
Lambert Senr., which occurred at his residence at twenty minutes to 10
o’clock on Friday night
last, after an illness of about two months. The deceased gentleman, who
was 81 years of age, had
resided on the Manning, we believe, for 47 years, during which time he
had naturally seen many
great changes. Mrs. Lambert predeceased her husband, but a large
family of sons and daughters –
most of whom are married – we believe – survive them, amongst
the family being Mrs. T. Dykes,
of Sydney; Mesdames Redman (2) of Stewarts River; Mrs.
Anderson,
Harrington; Mrs. W. McDonald, Motto; Mrs. Jno. Laurie
(deceased); Mrs. Emily
Lambert of
Moorland; Mr. J. A. Lambert, of Jones’ Island; Mr. Thos.
Lambert, mail contractor;
Mr. Henry Lambert, Sydney; and Master
Charles Lambert (deceased). During Mr. Lambert’s illness he was attended by Dr.
Gormley, but owing to the extreme age of
the sufferer, no hope of a cure
could be held out. Deceased was for many years a consistent
member of the Methodist Church,
and bore his illness with Christian patience. A memorial service
is to be
conducted in the Jones’ Island Church shortly by the Rev.
B. Lane. The funeral cortege, which left the residence at noon on
Sunday, was one of the largest seen on
the lower river – fully 300
persons from all parts of the district being present, showing the respect
in which the deceased was
held by all classes of the community. A short service was held at the
house, and at 1.30 p.m. the
Rev. B. Lane conducted the last sad rites at the Mitchell’s Island
cemetery. Much sympathy is expressed
for the members of the family in their bereavement.

More About Frederick Lambert:
Northern Champion 5th December 1936 MR. FREDERICK THOMAS
LAMBERT Quite a gloom was cast over the district when it became known that
Mr. Frederick
Thomas Lambert had died suddenly at his home, Hannam Vale, on Wednesday morning.
For the past few years, deceased had not enjoyed very robust health and had
received
treatment in Mayo hospital on several occasions; but still he was able to do
light jobs
about
his farm and supervise the work generally. He was born at Jones Island 65
years ago last March and lived there with his parents,
the late
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lambert, until about 17 years of age, when he selected
a block of land at Hannam Vale when that district was
practically all dense virgin brush,
and only accessible by bridle tracks. All supplies had to be conveyed by pack
saddle.
Nevertheless,
notwithstanding all the difficulties and hardships of those early days, he
succeeded in building up a fine home, dairy farm, herd and plant second to none
in the
district.
Some thirty years ago he married the late Mrs. W. Convery, of Cundletown,
who predeceased him about four years ago. There were no children of the
marriage. Just
prior to the advent of the railway, he, with Mr. Owen Convery, had the contract
of
running the mail by coach between Taree and Port Macquarie, afterwards returning
to
his farm, where he resided for the remainder of his life. He is survived by his
only
remaining sister and brother, Mrs. Naomi Redman, snr., of Bay’s Hill, and Mr. J.
A.
Lambert, of Taree. The sisters who predeceased him were Mrs. G. Scott
(Harrington),
Mrs. J. Laurie (Oxley Island), Mrs. T. Dykes (Drummoyne), Mrs. W. McDonald
(Moto), Mrs. G Redman (Dungog), and Miss Emily Lambert (Jones Island); and
brothers were Charles (Jones Island), George and William (Moorland), and Henry
(Dulwich Hill). The late Mr. Lambert was one of the oldest pioneers of
the district and enjoyed the
highest
esteem of his neighbours, and all with whom he came in contact, being always
willing
to lend a helping hand in any movement for the advancement of the district or to
render advice or assistance to his many friends and neighbours. The remains
were conveyed to Moorland cemetery on Thursday and were followed by
a large number of mourners and friends. The service at the graveside was
conducted by
Rev. Father Mulcahy, whilst Mr. S. A. Bridge had charge of the funeral
arrangements. …

More About Elizabeth Kidd:
Northern Champion 10th May 1933 MRS. ELIZABETH LAMBERT As briefly
mentioned last week, the death occurred at her home on Tuesday, 2nd May,
of Mrs. Elizabeth Lambert, wife of Mr. Thomas Lambert, of Hannam Vale. Deceased
passed away on the eve of her 75th birthday. She was a daughter of the late Mr.
Kidd
and
Mrs. Kidd - her mother later becoming the wife of Mr. Pat. Mooney, of the
Dawson. She had lived in the district nearly all her life, and in the early days
her
knowledge of first aid remedies proved of great value to her neighbours. She was
always ready to answer a call to a sick bed, and in her last
illness she was cheered by
visits from old friends to whom she had ministered. She was first
married to the late
Wm.
Convery,
who was
accidentally killed on Brown’s Hill about half a century ago.
They
then
lived at
Cundle. When she was married to Mr. Lambert 25 or 30 years ago
she
went to
Hannam
Vale to reside and has lived there ever since. The late Mrs. Lambert had a
seizure about two weeks prior to her death. Up till two
years ago she lived a very
active life – she was a skilful driver of horses and was quite
at home
with a team of four. The children by her first marriage include Mr. Owen
Convery, of Hannam Vale, and
Mrs. P. G. Steinmotz, of Hannam Vale. The funeral moved from her home on
Wednesday for the Moorland cemetery, Rev.
Father Mulcahy conducted the service
and Mr. S. A. Bridge carried out the funeral
arrangements.
