Office. Letter to Post Master recommending Winifred as Postmistress - May
1906 "Mrs Winifred May McDonald wife of the proposed
Postmaster, is willing to take on
the office at the present
allowance of 19 (pounds) per annum, to conduct the business
in the present premises,
which are conveniently situated. I recommend that Mrs.
Winifred May McDonald be appointed Postmistress at Ghinni
Ghinni with an allowance of
19 (pounds) per annum, ... ... Mr. McDonald resigned" The appointment was approved
on 15th Mary 1906 At the time of Winifred's appointment, T J Lambert was
the Mail Contractor. On April 25th 1906 Winifred wrote to the Deputy
Postmaster General advising "that
she could not take the
office on the allowance mentioned. I have asked Mr Whatson the
store keeper if he would be
likely to take it and he said no. And I asked Mr. A. R.
Longworth (junr) if he would
take the office and he said no. There is a school master
here I did not ask as it is
impossible for him to look after the two these three mentioned
are the only convenient
places here. I have the honour to be yours faithfully Fred
