History Society, MWFHS,  (2001).) was born 26 February 1833 in Beckley, Sussex, England, and

died 23 June 1908 in Taree, New South Wales. 

She married George Whatson (Source: Manning Wallamba Family History Society, MWFHS, 

(2001).) 14 May 1851 in Woodville, New South Wales, son of Jeremiah Whatson and Mercy

Padgham.  He was born 07 November 1830 in Guestling, Sussex, England, and died 06 August

1897 in New South Wales.

 1897 Petition

Miriam was a signatory on the 8th May 1897 petition to the Postmaster General to vouch for the

character of Mr. Ambrose Longworth as suitable to be Postmaster of Ghinni Ghinni Post Office.

Miriam gives his residence as Ghinni Ghinni.
Miriam also was a signatory to the 1908 petition to resite the Ghinni Ghinni Post Office to her

son's (Wililam Malcolm Whatson) store.

A petition of local residents was forwarded to the Deputy Postmaster general dated 16th January

1908 for the Ghinni Ghinnni Post Office to be situated at Mr. Whatson's store.
William also signed the petition.

Letter to Post Master recommending Winifred as Postmistress - May 1906
"Mrs Winifred May McDonald wife of the proposed Postmaster, is willing to take on

the office at the present allowance of 19 (pounds) per annum, to conduct the business

in the present premises, which are conveniently situated.
I recommend that Mrs. Winifred May McDonald be appointed Postmistress at Ghinni

Ghinni with an allowance of 19 (pounds) per annum, ... ... Mr. McDonald resigned"
The appointment was approved on 15th Mary 1906
At the time of Winifred's appointment, T J Lambert was the Mail Contractor.
On April 25th 1906 Winifred wrote to the Deputy Postmaster General advising "that

she could not take the office on the allowance mentioned. I have asked Mr Whatson the

store keeper if he would be likely to take it and he said no. And I asked Mr. A. R.

Longworth (junr) if he would take the office and he said no. There is a school master

here I did not ask as it is impossible for him to look after the two these three mentioned

are the only convenient places here.
