August 1941 OBITUARY MRS. M. A. LAWRENCE The death occurred in St
Vincent’s Hospital, Lismore, yesterday morning of Mrs. Matilda Ann
Lawrence (74), a resident
of Dunoon for the past 23 years. Mrs. Lawrence was born at Woodville
in the Hunter River
district and 54 years ago married at Morpeth, the late George Edmund
Lawrence, who was buried at
Dunoon in 1928. In 1906, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence came to the
Richmond River district and
first settled at Bexhill and after living for a time at Kerrong and
Eureka, purchased farming property
at Dunoon on which the family has since resided. Mrs.
Lawrence has
always
been an active member of the Methodist Church until forced through
ill-
health to
relinquish this work. During the war of 1914-1918 she was
an energetic worker for the
Red Cross.
Three sons and three
daughters survive. The sons are William and Edward (Dunoon), and Albert
(Milla Milla, Queensland),
and Mesdames H. McIntyre (Dunoon), E. Wright (Eden Creek, Kyogle)
and M. Eggins (Yamba) are
the daughters. The funeral will leave the Methodist Church, Dunoon,
to-day after a service
commencing at 1 p.m. for the Dunoon cemetery.

LAWRENCE Mr. James Edward Lawrence, of Dunoon, who died in St. Vincent’s
Hospital, Lismore,
early Tuesday morning, was buried yesterday afternoon in the Methodist portion
of
the Dunoon cemetery. Several years ago the deceased went
to North Queensland and resided with his brother,
Albert, at Milla Milla, and later in the Atherton district., where he became
well known
and respected by many people with whom he came in contact, and about three years
ago he came back to the Richmond River and settled at Dunoon, where he had since
resided. A service was conducted in the Methodist Church, Dunoon, by the Rev.
Spencer, who
also officiated at the graveside. The pall bearers were W. Lawrence (brother),
P.
Lawrence and F. R. Tandy (cousins), H. J. McIntyre (brother-in-law), W. J.
Rodgers
and N. Haiser. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Will Riley
and
Son.
