Alexander enlisted with the A.I.F. on the 25th November 1916 at West Maitland. He is

described as 5ft 7 1/4in. 137lbs with a Medium complexion, Blue eyes and Light hair.

He was attached to the 9th Australian Machine Gun Company on the 6th November

1917. Alexander saw service in France where he was wounded (gassed) in action in the

field on the 29th March 1918. He was invalided to England and admitted to the 2nd

Eastern General Hospital, Brighton, Sussex. Alexander rejoined his Battalion in the

field in France from wounded in October 1918. He returned to Australia on the 11st

August 1919 and was discharged from service on the 18th September 1919.
