Rowles:
Norman enlisted with the
R.A.N. A.I.F. on the 15th March 1916 at Melbourne,
Victoria. He is described as
5ft 5in. with a dark complexion, brown eyes and Brown
hair. Norman's eldest
brother and sister (Percy and Lily) provided written consent for
their brother "hold no
objection, to him going to the front, if he is desirous of
going." Norman saw service at Gallipoli and Egypt. On the 5th
February 1916 at Alexandria he
was attached for duty with
the A.A.G. Aust. Records Section. He returned to
Australia
on the
17th December 1917 and was discharged from service on the 3rd
January
1918. In 1920 Norman made an application under the War Service
Home Act.
