Douglas enlisted with the Royal Australian Navy on the 11th March 1915 at Sydney.

He is described as 5ft 5in. with a Fair complexion, Blue eyes and Dark Brown hair. He

lists his fater, Rev. Alexander Fraser as his next of kin, who provided written consent

for his son to enlist. Douglas saw service in Gallipoli and was part of the Suvla Bay

evacuation operaion. He was promoted to Petty Officer on the 13th March 1916. He

returned to Australia on the 29th May 1917 and discharged from service on the 24th

July 1917.
