HELEN MANTON'S PASSING ROBS US OF A GREAT CITIZEN

Helen Joyce Manton of "Hillside", Burra Road, Gundagai, died in the Gundagai

Hospital on Saturday.

Helen, a person noted for her gentleness and her serene personality was 81 years of age.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, some eighteen years ago.

Helen is survived by children Des, Marie Lindley, Maurice, Glenna Petty and Wendy

Percival.

Fifteen grand children and thirty-three great grandchildren are also left to mourn her

passing.

Born here, Helen was the daughter of Arch and Mary Elphick.

She was the sister of Addie Smith, Val Worldon, Nola Elphick, Dorothy Pollack

(deceased), Bill (deceased), Bob, Keith and Phillip.

When she and Ray married, they originally lived at Kimovale, before moving to Coolac

where they ran a dairy.

In 1947 they purchased their property at Bongongolong.

Helen was a great citizen and a wonderful wife and mother.

In her younger years she enjoyed her tennis and was also active in the P. and C.

Association.

Helen was the most hospitable of people.

It was always open house at her home, and she was a magnificent cook.

It was a talent she used in helping to prepare suppers for those well remembered Burra

dances and for every other social occassion.

In latter years Helen was a stalwart member of the Gundagai Hospital Auxiliary and

was heavily involved with the Gundagai Friendship Club.

Helen had a winning personality and a loving nature. She was a generous, thoughtful

and outgoing person.

The grief of her family is shared by her many friends.

Helen's funeral took place this afternoon after a service at St. John's.
