The Gundagai Independent 13th September 2004

DEATH OF HARRY WORLDON

Richard Henry ("Harry") Worldon died in the Gundagai Hospital on Friday Morning.

Harry, a resident of Uralba, had been a hospital patient for the past several weeks, but his death was not expected.

He was 86 years of age.

Hary was predeceased by his wife, Olive.

Born here, the son of Thomas and Alma Worldon, Harry is survived by two sisters, Elsie Flynn of Forbes and Dorrie Murdoch of Goobragandra.

A brother Mervern predeceased him.

Harry is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

On leaving school Harry worked at Kimo Station as a gardener.

He then worked at the Long Tunnel Mine at Reno, before working in mines at Adelong and Gunning.

In World War II he served for a time in the Head Coastal Artillery, before being discharged from the Army as an essential service provider, an engine operator-miner.

He worked for the Army in the Tumorroma Mnie.

After the war, Harry went to work as a station hand at "Stockdale" for a short while and then went to work on "Gunnong Jugrawah" for the Tait family.

He married Olive Crane in 1953.

He and Olive worked there for some forty years.

On retirement, they moved to Gundagai to live at O'Hagan Street.

Olive died in 1995 and Harry became a Uralba resident seven years ago.

He was highly regarded.

"Harry was a very gentle man, a very nice man" said Sandy Tait.

"He worked for my parents for many years and you could almost call him an engineer.
