Thomas first enlisted with the A.I.F. on the 15th May 1916 at Broadmeadow, New

South Wales. He is described as 5ft 5in. 120lbs with a Fair complexion, Blue eyes and

Fair hair. He was discharged as Medically Unfit ("not due to misconduct") at

Newcastle Depot Battalion on the 9th June 1916.
Thomas then enlisted again with the A.I.F. on the 20th September 1916 at Rutherford,

New South Wales. He is described as 5ft 5/12in 9st. with a Fair complexion, Blue eyes

and Light Brown hair. He was marched in from overseas to England on the 29th

December 1916. On the 7th September 1917 he was admitted to the Fargo Military

Hospital with Asthma. Thomas returned to Australia on the 4th January 1918 and was

discharged from service on the 12th February 1918.
Thomas again enlisted with the A.I.F. on the 27th April 1918 at Newcastle, New South

Wales. He is described as 5ft 7 1/2in. 127lbs with a Fair complexion, Blue eyes and Fair

hair. Proceedings of a Medical Board at Victoria Barracks found Thomas unfit for

service due to Asthma on the 27th May 1918.
