Independent 2nd December 1982 "Death Of Mrs. Mary Close" One of
Gundagai's grand old citizens, Mrs. Mary Euphemia Close, died in Wagga
Hospital on Friday last,
after a relatively short illness. Aged 81, she had been
transferred to Wagga a fortnight ago after being admitted to
Gundagai Hospital only two
weeks previously. Born in Gundagai, the daughter of the late George and Emily
Perkins she spent all her
life in this town. Her
husband, Bill, predeceased her some four years ago. Mrs. Close is survived by
one
son, Leo, two grand
children, John and Peter, and there is one great grand
child. She is also survived by sisters Nell (Mrs. O. I. Bell)
and Emily (Mrs. Chard, Harden)
and one brother Don
(Gundagai). She was predeceased by brothers Jack and Jim, and sisters Frances
(Mrs. Nuttall) and
Ivy. Mrs. Close was a
home loving woman, kindly and was a quite personality. She was a true
gentlewoman, whose life was a quite example of devotion and affection. The
funeral took place on Monday, following a service conducted by the Rev. Bill
Wright in St. John's
Anglican Church. The cortege then moved to the South Gundagai
cemetery. Pall bearers were Jack and Lockie Bell, Pat Elphick and Ian
McDonald.
