DEATH OF MRS. EILEEN
ROBERTSON
Mrs. Eileen Robertson has
died in Tumut
Hospital at the age of 82
years.
A member of the Hawke family of Gundagai, she is survived
by son John
(Tarrabandra) and daughter Marie (Mrs. Bryan Smith,
Canberra).
Grandchildren Bill and Iain Robertson and Yvonne Carr and
Annette Fitzgerald
are also left to much a much loved mother and
grandmother. There is one great
grand child.
Sister Olive (Mrs. Dunn) and one brother Les also
survive.
Mrs. Robertson spent all
her life in this district, living on the family farm at
Tarrabandra after her marriage.
Her husband, Herb,
predeceased her some thirteen years ago.
She was a woman of strong
family ties, quiet natured, and with a true warmth of
heart.
Her funeral takes place
this afternoon (Thursday) following a service in St.
John's Anglican Church at 3
p.m.

LES HAWKE
DIES
Lesley Hawke died in the
Gundagai Hospital on Saturday at the age of 79 years.Les
was the last of Gundagai's
blacksmiths, and came from one of this districts best known
families.
Les is survived by his wife
Nance and daughters Janice (Mrs. Britt, Gundagai) and
Carol (Mrs. Atkinson,
Cobargo).
Les' death came ten weeks
after he had suffered a heart attack.
He had spent most of that
period as a patient in the Gundagai Hospital.
Les was born at Gundagai the
son of Rachel and Nathaniel Hawke and was the last of
his generation of the
family.
He was predeceased by
brothers Wally and Jack, and sisters, Elsie, Eileen, Liz and
Ollie.
Les and brother Jack,
operated the last of Gundagai's blacksmiths.
......
Les was a great family man,
a man of quite personality and gentle humour.
He loved his home and his
garden and took delight in his four grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
His favoured recreation was
fishing but in later years he also enjoyed his game of
bowls.
He served as a member of the
Gundagai Volunteer Fire Bridage for a quarter of a
century and was awarded the
Queen Medal for his services.
Les was a well liked and
highly respected figure.
In recent years ill-health
curtailed his activities, but he still enjoyed a yarn and
whenever he could, he would
attend a football match expecially to watch his grandson,
Mark,
play.
On Sunday last, before the
start of the Gundagai-Cootamundra game, a minute's silence
was observed as a mark of
respect.
The funeral took place on
Tuesday,
Interment at Gundagai Lawn
Cemetery followed a service at
St John's
Anglican
Church......
