Notes for William Newman:

William enlisted for service on the 31st August 1914 at Winchester. He is described as

6ft 3/4in. 168 lbs. with a fresh complexion, Hazel eyes and Fair hair. William was

appointed to the Royal Dublin Fuseliers Regimental No. Private 12489. He saw service

in Curragh (1st September 1914 - 1st February 1915) and Dublin from 2nd February

1915. William then saw service at Gallipoli where he was wounded (shrapnel wound

right foot) in action in the field on the 21st August 1915. He was transferred to the UK

and admitted to the Welsh Metropolitan War Hospital, Whitechurch, near Cardiff.

William was discharged from hospital on the 6th November 1915. He rejoined his

Battalion in Azrameri on the 6th April 1916.  William was admitted to Hospital with

Malaria on the 31st July 1916 and invalided to England from Malta on the 16th

November 1916. He rejoined his Battalion in France on the 12th June 1917. On

demobilization he was transferred to Class Z Army Reserve dated 10th November

1919.
