Charles enlisted for service
on the 5th April 1914 at Grays, Essex. He is
described as
5ft 8in. He was appointed to
the 53rd Battalion, Essex Bty. R.F.A. Regimental No.
Corporal 880302. Charles saw
service in France and
Egypt. He was evacuated from
Egypt to England on the 11th February 1919
with Malaria and admitted to the 2nd
W.G.Hosp. Manchester then
transferred to the Belmont Aux. Mil. Hospital Liverpool
on the 6th March 1919. He was discharged from service on the
12th April 1919. He
was granted a pension as a
result of having Malaria.
