xxiiith daie of maye Anno Dm 1584 And in the xxviith yeare of the
Reige of most gracious
Sovereige Ladie Elizabeth by the grace of God, / of England ffrance and
Ireland, Queene, Defender
ye of the fayth etc. I Walter Maye of the prshe of north nybley in the
countie of Gloucester
husbandman bein / syke in Bodye; But of good and perfect memory,
Laude and prayse be to Almightye
God therefore Doo make and ordayne this my pute
Testament;
containing herein my true /
and pfect last will in manner and forme folowing that is to saye ffyrst
I comend my Soule into the
hand of Almyhtie God my maker and Redemer hoping / to ...... onely
by fayth in Christ. And my
Bodye to be buryed in Christian Buriall.
Item I give and bequeathe
to Edward and George my sonnes all and / synguler suche .......

instruments and plouge
geare as I have belonging to my plough: Equallye to be devided
betweene
them,
after the decease of Jone, my / wyfe, in as good state & condicion as yt,
is,
nowe at the, making hereof. So that shee
my sayde wyfe shall have the use and ....?...pacon of
all and singular
the
afore said things, During her naturall lyfe (unles shee happen to marry) But
yf shee marrie, that
then at
suche marriage All and eney pte and pcell thereof, shalbe prsentlie
delivered
to them
two brethren in such wise as is before sayde. And yf yt
happen George my
sonn to dye
wthout
yssue, That then his pte & porcion of the forsayde things
shalbe due to willm my son.
Item I give & bequeathe
to the before said Edwarde fourtye shilinges of good and Lawefull
Englishe money to be payed
unto him by myne Executrixe hereafter named at, or aboute the
feaste fo St Michael Tharche Angel
wch shalbe in the yeare of our Lorde God one Thousand,
fyve hundrec fowre score and
sixe.
Item I give & bequeathe
to the before said Edwarde the greatest Bras pann in the house to be
delivered to him by mye
Executrixe imediatelye after my decease.
Item I give & bequeath
to the before sd George, my sonn fourtye shillings of good and Lawfull
Englishe money, to be payed
to him by myne Executrixe, when hee shalbe xxitie years of
age.
Item I give & bequeath
to the same George one Oxe called ?Brassone, And also one Coffeur in
the Chamber wch I lye
in.
Item I give & bequeath
to willm, my sonn three pounds of good and Lawful Englishe money, to
be paid to him by mye
Executrixe, when he shalbe xxitie yeats of age.
Item I give & bequeath
(to be devyded) betwene George and willm the greatest Bronze in the
house, to be delivered to
them after the decease of my wyfe.
Item I give and bequeath to
Thomas my sonn three pounds of good and Lawful Englyshe
monye, To be payed to him by myne
Executrixe when he shalbe of the age on one and twentie
years.
Item I give and bequeath to
John my sonn three pounds of good and Lawful monie of Englande,
To be payed to him by myne
Exec’ when he shalbe xxitie years of age.
Item I give and bequeathe
to the same Thomas and John one payre of Andyrons to be devided
betweene
them.
Item I give & bequeath in lyke maner to
my sonne Anthonie three pounds of good and Lawful
monie of England, To be paid to him by myne
Executrixe when hee shalbe xxi tie years of age.
Item I give and bequeath to
my daughter Agnes five pounds of good & Lawful englyshe money,
To be payed to her by mye
Exec’ at the daie of her marriage.
Item I give and bequeath to
the same Agnes one cofferr standing in the
Parloure.
Provided That yf anyone or
more of these fyve Chyldren last rehearsed decease before they be
marryed, that then that
child pte or them Childrens pte and porcons so deceased; shalbe due to
the other of them then
lyving: Equalie to be devided by myne Executrix. and yf they all savinge
one happen to decease in
?suc..e ? forte as before that then
the whole pte and porcons of them
so decease and gone; shall
reimburse and become to that one childe so
survivinge.
Item I give and bequeath
one Standing Bedsteade in the Parlour to be and remayne a Standarde
theare So long as anie of
the name contynue and enioye the same ?house Provided also that yf
Edward my sonn happen, to
decease before he receyve these Things wch by this testament is
given unto him: That Then
yt shalbe Lawful for the sayde Edwarde to give and dispose ye same
to whomsoever he shall soe
good. and then to receyve the same at such Tyme as is menconed
in this my pute testament and last
Will. All and synguler the use of my Goods and Cattell
whatsoever,
not yet
given nor bequeathen, my Debts, legaces and funerall discharged & payed:
I wholy give
and
bequeath to Jone my wyfe, whome I make me true and Lawful Executrix.
Moreover knowe yee,
mee the
aforesaide Testator, to have chosen and sett Overseers for this
my pute Testament, for
the
better observacon thereof; my trustye and welbeloved in Christ
