Notes for Harriett
Witchard:
..... death of George
Witchard from the Macleay Chronicle, Thursday 23 April 1908. Think the
entry was also in the Manning
Times. It mentions his surviving brothers and sisters and also his
sister Mrs. W. Reeves who died
about 18 years ago. That puts her death at about 1890. As
Tobias Reeves also died in 1908 at
Coopernook in the district of Taree.

Notes for Elizabeth Smith
Northern Champion 10th September
1921 MRS. ELIZABETH ANN REEVES Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Reeves, who lived her
life in Taree and on the Lansdowne
River, died in the M.R.D. Hospital on Friday
last, aged 65 years. The deceased lady had been twice married. Her first
husband, Mr. Harry Miller,
was drowned at Pampoolah many years ago. The
river at the time was in flood,
and Mr. Miller, Mr. Alf. Sealey and Mr. John
Hughes endeavored to cross from
Oxley Island to the mill at Pampoolah, which
was then a working concern. By
some means the flat-bottomed boat in which
they were crossing was upset.
Messrs. Miller and Sealey, who were both
good swimmers, were drowned, and
their bodies were recovered a week or so
later near the Old Bar. Mr. Hughes
who could not swim, managed to get ashore.
The offspring of the first family
are Mrs. W. Webster, of Coopernook, and Mr.
Robert G Miller, of
Mullumbimby. Subsequently Mrs. Miller married Mr. Harry
Reeves, a native of Taree, and
Mrs. T. Y. Cross, now of Taree, is an only
daughter of that union. The remains of the deceased were laid to rest in the
Dawson cemetery on
Saturday, Captain Ford, of the Salvation
Army, conducting the burial service. … transcribed from a copy of the obituary from Diane
Edwards – May 2007
