Williams Family

        1.  Nicholas Durbera1 Williams died in prior to 1851.

He married Mary wife of Nicholas Durbera Williams.

She was born 1769 in Elworthy, Somersetshire, England, and died in After 1851.

Durbers may be Durborough - there are a few Marriage entried in the Crowcombe parish

records which are recorded as "Williams at Durborough".

Michael,

Thanks for your email.

The "@Durborough" shows that the entry in the register actually says 'Williams alias

Durborough'. As you've probably seen or know already, the 'alias' often seems to refer to some

connection with the other surname

either as possible bastardy way back, or legitimate marriage but keeping the second name for

some reason, possibly to do with inheritance.

I noticed that there was a Durborough name in the marriages in Bicknoller in 1683 so there must

have beenpeople of that name in the general area.

Durborough is still a small hamlet near Stogursey so I suppose its possible that there could have

been aWilliams who came from Durborough in the distant past. In one of the Stogursey registers,

the Abode entry hasDubra written in but I'm sure that refers to Durborough and I've put that in in

brackets.

Glad you've had some success in tracing your people.

Cheers,

             Martin

The connection may well stem from the marriage listed on the IGI of Nicholas Durborough &

Frances Williams on October 24 1701 in West Bagborough, Somerset, England - Grandparents

of Nicholas?? (Michael September 2005)
